I'm pretty sure this is Fusion's fault since it wasn't happening before the Tools installation. I've dug through Windows extensively with no improvement.

I have learned how to navigate blindly into the Windows display settings and pick an off resolution, then Revert, to make it display at a READABLE resolution, but it won't stay that way no matter what I try. Anyways, finally got Tools running, as proven by now being able to use Shared folders like I'm used to, and being able to copy/paste between Win and Mac sides, which weren't working before Tools install. I think it took 5 restarts before Tools was happy? And that's only after I figured out the weird installation procedure, and copied the installer files out of the virtual CD so the installer didn't crash after asking for a restart. Related side rant: VMWare Tools installation is really clunky. New machine is MacBook Pro running 10.14. If you look closely, you will find a white bar on either of the blue boxes you see on the screen. There you will see the arrangement of your monitors in blue color including the MacBook screen.

Having a rough time moving to Fusion 11.5.1 on a new machine from using Fusion 7, which was pretty dang smooth compared to THESE hiccups. From the System Preferences window on Mac, click on Display settings. You can run in a window too of course, Cmd-Tab works to go to it even if full screen, etc., but like you I like seeing the full Windows desktop when I am using the Windows app.
